Advice needed
Most of my songs have been the same whether it is for a ukulele or guitar. If there were ukulele tabs in the song I simply hid them (same as when I change key) if moving from ukulele display to guitar. If there were some inversions that worked in the ukulele then they went to guitar (even if they weren’t nice on the guitar).
So now I am starting to differentiate a bit between uke and guitar. I have (mostly) completed converting any tab riffs from uke to guitar (hope there aren’t too many mistakes) and am starting to look at inversions and alternative chord shapes to see whether they make sense for the guitar.
This means that if there are changes between the uke and guitar then I store them separately in my database and trot one or the other out as needed.
So if you request a guitar version of a song e.g. https://ozbcoz.com/Songs/song.php?ID=3635,guitar then it may show guitar tabs for riffs rather than uke tabs (assuming there are any) and if updated then there may be some chord differences
Now this could cause another problem. If you have made some changes to a song via the EDIT menu item then there could be a problem if you want to change the display to guitar (or ukulele if you started with guitar). If I brought in my revised guitar version of that song then you would lose your changes.
So what I would suggest would be that if you initially request a guitar version of a song e.g. https://ozbcoz.com/Songs/song.php?ID=3635,guitar then all changes etc would be based on the guitar version and if you changed your instrument to ukulele then it wouldn’t bring in the uke version but would just display the uke chords. This means that tabs could be affected. The same would be true for chord inversions e.g.
Complicated I know – but I hope that enough of you understand what I am saying to pass on any advice on direction for this

Hi Jim,
I was printing out ukulele and guitar versions of songs last week but did not make any edits so was not aware of these issue.
I have just done a little experiment, to see what happens if I edit a Ukulele version by adding:
– a new Chord with a new chord Definition
– a new Definition for a Chord already in the song
– and then swap to the Guitar version.
The result was little unexpected but maybe that is just me not understanding quite how this works 🙂
Using the first song in the list, (Let Me Be) Your Teddy Bear – Ukulele GCEA version:
1. Added a new Chord with a new chord Definition (just a random chord!)
– added [D7] 2-0-2-0
2. Added [F] as 2-0-1-3 (in order to overwrite the standard definition 2-0-1-0)
3. Both the above worked fine.
4. Then Transposed to Guitar. Outcome:
– D7 chord is still included in the Songsheet but the Guitar grid is blank
– F chord – Standard Guitar grid is blank
– F-alt chord – Standard Guitar grid is displayed correctly

Is that what you would have expected to happen?
I hope that is some help!
Best wishes,

I am just replying here in case anyone stumbling across this page thinks that you do not reply to comments 🙂
Best wishes and many thanks again for all your hard work providing these free resources!

Replied by email directly – working on the final version to be released when the mandolin version is released – fixes these anomalies
Hi Jim,
Got your email!
Mandolin as well!! You are a glutton for punishment, Jim!!
I am up to my ears organising the “Strum on The Tyne” at the moment so I probably won’t get around to having another go at playing with the new version for a week – at least! 😉
Best wishes,
Liz X
