Issue around Creating Songbooks In Favourites

If you ever create a songbook from Favourites it would be great if you could read this and give me feedback – sorry it’s quite a long post.

The default for chords in a song, when displayed on the website, is to have red colour in bold. You can change this using the Layout options. There are a few other defaults, most of which you can change in Layout options. These all flow through to the PDF if you do a PDF/Img => Create PDF.

The defaults for Chord colour in the big PDF Songbook is red but NOT bold. The songbooks are created by taking the PDF for each song (same as that found in PDF/Img => Existing Songbook PDF) and merging them together. Thus each songs PDF is Red in standard weight – i.e. NOT bold.

When you create a favourite you can store bits of information about it, including revised lyrics, chords, chord colour, font size etc. When you re-open the favourite you get these Layout options applied. When open you can create a PDF and those layout options flow through to the PDF

Now if you have favourites you can create a songbook by merging together selected favourites. Some of those songs may have been changed by you and some may be the standard song that you have added to favourites.

If you create a songbook by merging selected songs the website will not recreate PDFs for songs that haven’t been EDITed (to save time and cost creating the PDF). So the song will be picked up from the existing PDF created when I uploaded the song (or did subsequent edits). Because it is not recreating the PDF then any Layout options are pretty much ignored for the PDF side.

The web site does recreate PDFs for any song that you have modified (in the EDIT box). It obeys the font size and line spacing etc. However it does not obey the lyrics colour, chord colour, landscape etc. so that it keeps standard with any non modified song.

Now the key issue is – is this OK?

I could change it so that any Layout changes (e.g. make Lyrics bold, chord names blue etc.) flow through into your created songbook for Favourites that you have edited. I still wouldn’t be flowing these through for Favourites that you haven’t edited (will use the existing PDF). But that means the format/look and feel of the songs could vary in the songbook. Not sure that this would be useful

I would like to keep the status as it is – if you create a songbook then you can change font size etc on songs you have edited but not otherwise, and chords will show as Red, non bolded.

    2. I would like to be able to take a web page (eg Jims song book) after it has loaded and put it into the library. What should I do?

      1. What format do you want it stored as?

If it is a PDF then simply go to the web page, click on Files and click on Existing Songbook PDF and a PDF of the original song will be downloaded
If you have changed key or anything else then click on Create PDF and it will download a PDF of your changed version

You can then put those PDFs in your library

  1. I just noticed yesterday when I attempt to create a GUITAR chords songbook from favorites, i will create a songbook in UKULELE chords.

Is there something i am doing wrong or are only UKULELE songbooks can be created?

    1. have you made sure that the Faves page is in Guitar mode. Check the url up the top – it should have ?instr=guitar at the end of the address.

You do that by being in Guitar mode in the index page and then clicking on the Faves heart icon

  2. Question concerning edited songs, favorites and songbook. I edited a song, updating the chords and saved it. It showed up in favorites. I then was creating a song book by selecting multiple songs to favorites and happened to click that same song. The original song replaced my edited song in favorites rather than creating a second copy. Is this expected behavior?

  3. Yes. Making a song a favourite would always replace an existing version of that song. People use that approach to reset changes at times
